The 'Kampong' brand

Unlike the brands in the UK where you don't really have to check the cloth quality, unless it's from 'some shops', you have to here in Singapore. If you've ever been to Bugis street and worn the clothes from them shops, you will know what I am talking about. There are 'chic and sleek' shops in the malls, that easily fool you! You don't want 'use and throw' clothes do you? So, I was in quest to find a decent Singaporean 'Kampong' (local) brand and 'BYSI' was what I found. The brand is just ten years old and although has it's franchise in eight countries of south east Asia, I feel BYSI should be out there more.
Obviously the first attraction were 'colors', that were neat and sophisticated. I smell fashionable feminism smelling out of them.
The following pictures (s/s collection 12) are 'borrowed' from the web itself. The web also educates you, 'the three labels' of the brand, Gold, silver and black. Gold is designed for women with taste of fine workmanship, Silver is designed for working women with stylish choice and black provides basic needs. I can definitely see myself visiting the store very soon!

I want to 'I Do!'

This post I dedicate to my friend/sister/the model below and dearest brother-in-law also the model below. Because of you guys I have this perks of wedding ceremony creeping into me. Ah! the dress, make up, attention, the feeling (I felt it even I was just a brides-maid), the day etc. I finally understood the 'big deal'. I have watched 'Bride Wars' several times, but watching the craze of wedding plans and actually feeling some part of that craziness is something! I would love to be stressed, important and blissful in that manner.

This is very exclusive and no one has ever seen it before. I could have gotten more, but the photographer's constant nagging DID distanced me away. To friends and families enjoy the sneak peak! ;)

The Artist

I had these for a long time and since I have no valid reason for why I am posting it just now, I am just going to act as if nothing has happened and continue.

One of the themes for my blog was to feature fresh art/artists and boy I feel proud to start it, with featuring creations of a family member, my very dear uncle, Master Rastra Rai.

He doesn’t know it but I call him ‘The Artist’. I have two strong reasons for the title a) because he paints b) and because he has prominently excelled in the field of taekwondo.

Amongst many Gurkhas in the British army, albeit being a former army, he still stands out. Why? Because he is amongst the few who has polished the Gurkhali title oh so brilliantly! Do check him out in season three of Deadliest Warriors, where he represented and won the who-is-the-strongest-battle between the Gurkhas and the French Legion. In my last visitation I got the access to his basement which is festooned with his creative canvases. I had longed to see what I had heard so much of, and my curiosity paid off. When I lit the light of the basement, I was overwhelmed with admiration and respect. The basement was interesting. I could feel that Gurkhali aroma. There was passion and patience ubiquitously present. I am not new to painting, but when I saw his work, I felt I still had a long way to go and more importantly work on patience. 

“I still have a lot to learn”, he says and I wonder what’s still to learn because from my point of view, I feel like he is already there, but I guess it’s the ‘the more you learn, the more you know you still lack’ thing!

His paintings are so neat, that it almost seems very easy. His works are mostly portraits, mostly Gurkhali faces. I hope he does an exhibition soon and I hope I can paint like him (or perhaps better than him ;p) because after all, he is the master!

Canon Moments!

My "Holiday" officially ended yesterday, when I waved off my friend and her husband at the airport, unwillingly. So much fun we had, sometimes I forgot we were all grown ups now! Things may have changed 'age' wise, but certainly our silliness hasn't! She with her, bought a bag full of nostalgia and memories. Couple of evenings, we parked ourselves on a cafe at Marina square, where we replayed those days which happened only about 6-7 years ago (I feel old) We didn't just laughed, we LAUGHED. Those are probably the most innocent and important days of all of us. 

Although I have lived in Singapore for almost two years, the tourist in me only crept out in the last ten days, when I walked around extremely heated pavements with the feel of amusement in everything I see (The feeling was passed on to me by my friend) and I loved it!! Considering my stay in Singapore, I thought I'd be a fine guide, but funny thing was I ended up being a well informed tourist but a bad guide. My legs have tighten up a bit and my skin has tanned, which is not a bad thing at all.
'Singapore is beautiful, Singapore is clean, Singapore is best known for it's street food, Singapore is safe' damn right it is, because Singapore IS all the above mentioned things. If I had to do a report on Tourism Singapore, there would be no lies. 

I had a blast and before I forget I know I am a day late but still 'Majulah Singapore'. Also, no matter what the trend is, a simple frock always rocks summer!

I dislike wrist watches, whereas penchant watches are very much my style. The moment I saw the rabbit in 'Alice in Wonderland' carring it, I loved it! okay I am just kidding! but I did first came across it via that extremely late rabbit.
I have a soft spot for neck watches, probably because I am very good at nursing nostalgias! Like the old ways of writing letters! Things are much easier now with the access to instant messaging but, I do miss the 'hard work' of actually pulling out a pen, a paper and actually writing with your very own hand (though the only letters I wrote were to my friends who sat next rows, it was organic at least!)
I used to own quite a few neck watches, but because clumsiness is my second name, they lived up to 'clumsiness's' reputation. I found a unique one few days ago at a loney stall named 'tagstyle'. It sells fashion accsesorizes. Cute and adorable are the things available. You can without any hesitation check it out at facebook.

the July brag!

I wanted to make July the fattest month. I wanted to bulk it up with fat loads of pictures and unlimited words, but sadly its as aneroxic as April. like I said earlier, it's all due to a course, which has fortunately arrested all my attention. So, before I say 'ciao' to july let me share you my 'I am wearing' section.
I once saw a picture of Fearne Cotton, where she was wearing a tube skirt with a plain vest. It was relaxed, cool and chic. I liked it the moment I saw it and since then have always wanted to 'adopt' that certain look. Mine is a tube with frill (River Island) and an animal print vest (topshop). It's not same but has the same theme flowing.

whilst everyone is on about assymetrical hemlined skirt, I am loving my denims. Sometimes there is nothing like a good pair of jeans! This is my very relaxed look:)
